On behalf of Telstra Energy and working with Metropolis Metering Services and Next Generation Electrical, SwitchCo acted as Project Manager to co-ordinate Stage 1 of an energy metering project to roll out revenue grade metering equipment onto backup generators in Telstra Exchanges in Victoria and South Australia. This initiative by Telstra is to utilise existing infrastructure to increase energy security of the electrical grid by reducing demand during times of peak load whilst introducing additional revenue streams for Telstra. SwitchCo’s scope included undertaking site audits, overseeing and reviewing design solutions, co-ordinating program and logistics, and driving completion of works and documentation.


SwitchCo Projects’ challenge was to ensure the contractors implemented suitable solutions in a timely manner on project sites that differed greatly from each other – from the backup power equipment and the condition of, the configuration of the backup power system, and the site layout and access requirements.


SwitchCo Projects added significant value to the project in co-ordination to ensure the contractors were able to complete their works in a previously untried pilot project. SwitchCo did this by implementing a strong project structure with focussed deliverables tracking, as well as regular communication with all parties throughout the project.
