Background:

Formerly a service station, this site had already been demolished and had all underground assets removed when Hargreaves Property Group took ownership of the land. With lease agreements in place to develop the land into a new service station for Westside Petroleum, our client, based in Sydney, needed a project manager with experience in service station development to represent them in Melbourne. SwitchCo Projects were engaged as the Client Representative to deliver the design and construct stage of the project.

Challenges:

The project was nearing completion when the Covid-19 pandemic and travel restrictions were at its peak. Key equipment such as the dispensers that were manufactured overseas were shipped to Melbourne ahead of schedule to avoid the shutdown of manufacturing or shipping lines. With both the Client and Lessee based in Sydney, a physical inspection of the site works was not possible. The Practical Completion inspection walk was completed with the Client and Lessee via video conference and through a review of the photos.

Outcome:

The project was delivered on time and on budget despite the challenges of Covid-19 restrictions. SwitchCo Projects was able to maintain a clear line of communication between all stakeholders with regular photographic updates to our Client. This helped provide our Client peace of mind knowing that they have another set of eyes and ears on the ground and that their project is on track.
